• Do Crayola Crayons float or sink in water?

  All Crayola® Crayons are made with paraffin wax and color pigment. The crayons vary slightly in weight due to the amount of color pigment added to make each color as well as the density of the powder pigment itself. Even though certain color pigments are very light, and others are very dense, that doesn't mean all dark crayons are heavier. Test this in your laboratory by doing an experiment to see which Crayola Crayons float and sink in water.

• Is gluten/wheat an ingredient in Crayola products?

  Crayola® Dough, Glitter Dots, and Easy Peel Crayon Pencils are manufactured with wheat (flour) as an ingredient and therefore are not considered gluten free. All other Crayola products, including Silly Putty, do not contain wheat or other grains known to be a source of gluten.

  
  

  Multiple Crayola products are produced in the same manufacturing facilities and on the same machinery. While there is a slight chance of cross-contamination, the machinery used to manufacture Crayola products is cleaned between production runs in a manner that meets or exceeds all regulations.

• What dyes are used in Crayola Markers?

  The basic ingredients in Crayola® Markers are water and dye. A common experiment is to use paper chromatography to separate the dyes. When performing this experiment, you will find that not all Crayola Marker colors separate into different colors due to the nature of dyes utilized in creating marker colors. (Brown, violet and green markers work best). For example, only one dye is used to make our red color marker, but a number of dyes are used to make our brown color marker. In a chromatography experiment, the brown will separate into different colors; however, the red will not. • Do you offer helpful tips for using the Spin and Spiral Art Station?

  Our experts recommend the following tips for best results.

  • A little ink goes a long way! A few drops of the ink is all you need for your masterpiece.
  • Don't pump too fast. This could cause your unit to skip. If this happens, slow down and start again.
  • After you're finished creating, clean your unit by wiping it with a paper towel.
  • Use the storage compartment on the bottom of the base to stay organized.
