FAQ

  • Color Wonder is a patented mess-free creative system of inks and paints, developed by Crayola scientists.

    Is Color Wonder Safe?

    • Just like all Crayola products, Color Wonder is nontoxic. To learn more about the safety of all Crayola products, visit the Crayola Product Safety page.

What makes Color Wonder different from Washable Markers and Paints?

    • Color Wonder inks and paints are clear, and colors appear only on special Color Wonder paper. Kids love to watch the colors magically appear, and parents love the fact that Color Wonder inks and paints will not appear on skin, walls, or carpet.

What Color Wonder products are available?

Can I reuse my Color Wonder Paper?

    • You cannot reuse the same piece of Color Wonder paper twice.
  • Throughout Crayola's history, several crayon colors have been retired, marking significant moments in the evolution of our vibrant palette.

    1990
For the first time in Crayola history, eight colors were retired and placed in the Crayola Hall of Fame: blue gray, green blue, lemon yellow, maize, orange red, orange yellow, raw umber, and violet blue. Eight new colors were added: cerulean, dandelion, fuchsia, jungle green, royal purple, teal blue, vivid tangerine, and wild strawberry.

    2003
Celebrating a century of bringing color to the world, Crayola introduced four new colors named by Crayola fans! To make room for the new hues, we bid farewell to blizzard blue, magic mint, mulberry, and teal blue. The four new colors that were introduced are: inchworm, jazzberry jam, mango tango, and wild blue yonder. Kudos to our hue heroes - the consumers who voted in the "Save the Shade" campaign, ensuring burnt sienna stayed in the pack.

    2017
To mark National Crayon Day on March 31st, we announced Dandelion was leaving the pack. To honor this iconic color, we sent Dandelion on a retirement tour to his favorite places. His replacement, Bluetiful, was announced on May 5, 2017.

  • In 1993 we conducted a poll to find out the most popular colors in America. Blue was voted the most popular CRAYOLA Crayon color. Rounding the top ten were red, violet, green, carnation pink, black, turquoise blue, blue green, periwinkle and magenta.

In 2000, we did another Crayola Color Census, and blue again reigns as number one! Six other shades of blue finished in the Top 10 including cerulean, midnight blue, aquamarine, periwinkle, denim and blizzard blue.  The other colors rounding out the list included purple heart, caribbean green and cerise.
  • Keep designs permanent on fabric and other surfaces when you choose Crayola products with non-washable pigments:

    • Crayola Acrylic Paints, including Acrylic Paint Sticks
    • Crayola Fabric Markers
    • Crayola Fine Point Doodle Markers (ideal for cotton, polyester, leather, & canvas)
    • Crayola Portfolio Series Acrylic Paint
    • Crayola Take Note! Permanent Markers
For added permanency and to fix the color to the fabric, an adult should heat-set the colors before laundering or wearing the garment. Otherwise, washing the fabric before heat-setting, will cause a loss of color intensity.

    To heat-set using an iron
    1.  Set the iron at the hottest setting appropriate for the fabric type.
    2. Cover your work-surface with scrap cloth or rags to prevent unwanted stains.
    3. Turn the fabric inside out, and iron the reverse side of the design with a back and forth motion for 4 minutes.

To heat-set using a clothes dryer, place the item alone in the dryer for 30 minutes on the hottest setting appropriate for the fabric. Do not dry other garments at the same time.

To heat-set using a blow-dryer, use the hottest setting to thoroughly heat the design for 4 minutes.
