• Is it safe to use Crayola art materials to make lipstick, eyeliner, and other makeup?

  As a manufacturer of children's products, safety is our top priority at Crayola. Although our arts and crafts products are nontoxic, we do not recommend using them to make eyeliner, lipstick, or other makeup, and strongly discourage using them this way. Crayola art products were never intended to be used on the skin or face in this manner.

  
  

  Makeup goes through specific and rigorous testing since it is intended to be used on the skin. Because they were never meant to be used as makeup, our colored pencils, crayons, markers, paint, and all art products have not been tested in the same way a makeup product is and should not be used as a cosmetic. Crayola art materials are not designed, tested, or approved for this purpose.

• Are Crayola and Silly Putty products nontoxic to animals?

  If your pet has ingested a Crayola or Silly Putty product, please contact a veterinarian for assistance. All Crayola and Silly Putty products have been evaluated by an independent toxicologist and found to contain no known toxic substances in sufficient quantities to be harmful to the human body, even if ingested or inhaled. In addition, Crayola and Silly Putty art materials carry the Art and Creative Materials Institute's (ACMI) APPROVED PRODUCT (AP) seal, which indicates these products meet or exceed specific quality standards.

• How should I store Crayola Markers?

  For best results, please store the following markers horizontally:

  Traditional Crayola Markers (washable and regular) should be stored vertically with the capped tip of the marker facing upward.

• Which Crayola products are permanent on fabric?

  Keep designs permanent on fabric and other surfaces when you choose Crayola products with non-washable pigments:

  For added permanency and to fix the color to the fabric, an adult should heat-set the colors before laundering or wearing the garment. Otherwise, washing the fabric before heat-setting, will cause a loss of color intensity.

  
  

  To heat-set using an iron

  1.  Set the iron at the hottest setting appropriate for the fabric type.
  2. Cover your work-surface with scrap cloth or rags to prevent unwanted stains.
  3. Turn the fabric inside out, and iron the reverse side of the design with a back and forth motion for 4 minutes.

   

  To heat-set using a clothes dryer, place the item alone in the dryer for 30 minutes on the hottest setting appropriate for the fabric. Do not dry other garments at the same time.

   

  To heat-set using a blow-dryer, use the hottest setting to thoroughly heat the design for 4 minutes.

• Does Crayola offer a college scholarship program?

  Crayola is not sponsoring a college scholarship program; however, you may want to learn more about the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program. This is the largest and longest-running program of its kind in the nation, encouraging and recognizing the artistic talents of students in grades 7-12. Entry materials can generally be obtained in the fall for the awards the following spring.
