  • Most of our color names are taken from a book called "Color: Universal Language and Dictionary of Names," which was published by the U.S. Bureau of Standards. We use this reference guide because everyone sees and expresses color differently. Using the Universal dictionary as a base, we can refer to a standard color system and color names. Many crayon names are also borrowed from traditional artists' paints. In addition, we have asked consumers, through various promotions, to help name crayon colors. To learn about any future color naming opportunities, please register to receive our newsletter at Crayola's newsletter signup page.

  • Crayola has 800,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space in the Lehigh Valley. The crayon manufacturing area is 54,000 square feet in the crayon packing area, and 34,000 square feet in the molding and labeling area. The Forks I facility, which houses the crayon manufacturing area, is 460,000 square feet of space.

  • Crayola uses two types of label adhesives, water-based and hot melt. To remove Crayola crayon labels, first try soaking the crayons in warm soapy water for a few minutes. Rinse and dry the crayons before using. If this method is unsuccessful, an adult can peel the label off by hand and use a dull knife to scrape off any remaining paper.

  • All Crayola® Crayons are made with paraffin wax and color pigment. The crayons vary slightly in weight due to the amount of color pigment added to make each color as well as the density of the powder pigment itself. Even though certain color pigments are very light, and others are very dense, that doesn't mean all dark crayons are heavier. Test this in your laboratory by doing an experiment to see which Crayola Crayons float and sink in water.
